How do I take care of my new tattoo?

Aftercare is an extremely important aspect of getting a tattoo. Taking great care of your tattoo after your appointment will ensure that it heals properly and stays as clean and vibrant as possible!

A few things to keep in mind: You know your body best! Check in with yourself after our session. If you’ve had success with different products or healing practices from previous tattoos, continue with those methods. Always feel free to ask me any questions about aftercare.

Aftercare

  • After your tattoo is finished, we will apply a bandage or second skin to your fresh tattoo. Keep this bandage on for 2-3 days. If your bandage is falling off before the 2 days are finished, remove the bandage. Do not put a new bandage on, as this can increase your risk of infection. If you are having a reaction to the second skin, please remove it.

  • While your second skin is on, avoid heavily exercising or sweating.

  • Remove the bandage in the shower by gently pulling it down in the direction of your hair growth.

  • After the bandage is removed, gently wash the tattoo and apply a thin layer of Aquaphor or unscented lotion.

  • Continue washing using a thin layer of unscented moisturizer until your tattoo is fully healed.

  • Throughout the healing process, your tattoo may peel and/or become itchy. This is normal! Please avoid scratching or pulling at the peeled skin, as this may lead to your tattoo healing incorrectly.

  • Avoid direct contact with sunlight on your fresh tattoo. If you will be exposed to sunlight, always use sunscreen and/or wear long sleeves to cover the tattoo. Continue using sunscreen on your skin to protect your tattoo from sun damage.

  • Do not swim or submerge in bathtubs, pools, hot tubs, or open water for at least 2 weeks.
